Author Guidelines

General Requirements

All manuscripts must be written in English and prepared in accordance with the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th Edition.

Manuscripts should be submitted as a single Microsoft Word (.docx) file, double-spaced, with 1-inch (2.54 cm) margins on all sides, using a 12-point serif font (Times New Roman or Georgia preferred).

Pages must be numbered consecutively, beginning with the title page.

British or American English spelling is acceptable provided it is used consistently throughout the manuscript.

Manuscript Structure

Original research articles should follow this general structure:

1.       Title Page: Title (max 20 words), running head, all author names, affiliations, ORCID iDs, corresponding author contact details, word count, and number of tables/figures.

2.      Abstract: Structured abstract of 200-250 words with the following sections: Objective, Methods, Results, Conclusions.

3.      Keywords: 4-6 keywords, listed alphabetically, not duplicating words from the title.

4.      Main Text: Introduction, Method (Participants, Measures/Materials, Procedure, Data Analysis), Results, Discussion.

5.      References: APA 7th Edition format. Include DOIs for all available entries.

6.      Tables and Figures: Placed after references, one per page, with titles and notes formatted per APA 7th Edition.

7.      Supplementary Materials (if applicable): Appendices, additional data, or extended analyses.

Title Page and Anonymisation

TJMPS uses double-blind peer review. Authors must submit two files: (a) a title page file containing all identifying information, and (b) a blinded manuscript file with all author names, affiliations, acknowledgements, and self-identifying references removed or replaced with [Author, Year].

Tables and Figures

Tables must be editable (not images) and formatted per APA 7th Edition conventions with horizontal rules only.

Figures must be submitted at a minimum resolution of 300 dpi in TIFF, PNG, or EPS format.

Colour figures are published at no additional cost in the online version.

All tables and figures must be cited in sequential order in the text.

Statistical Reporting

Authors are expected to report exact p-values (e.g., p = .032, not p < .05), effect sizes with confidence intervals, and sufficient detail for replication. For null hypothesis significance testing, alpha should be stated explicitly. Bayesian analyses are encouraged as complementary or primary approaches. Authors using structural equation modelling should report multiple fit indices (e.g., CFI, TLI, RMSEA, SRMR). For studies employing machine learning, authors should report model selection procedures, cross-validation strategies, and metrics appropriate to the prediction task (e.g., AUC, F1, RMSE).

Ethical Standards

All research involving human participants must have received ethical approval from a recognised institutional review board or ethics committee. The manuscript must state the name of the approving body, the approval date, and the reference number. Research involving animals must comply with the relevant national and institutional guidelines. Studies involving vulnerable populations require additional justification of the risk-benefit balance. Research using AI tools for data collection or participant interaction must describe how informed consent was obtained and how data privacy was maintained.

Data Availability and Open Science

TJMPS strongly encourages authors to make research data, analysis code, and materials publicly available through trusted repositories (e.g., OSF, Zenodo, Figshare). Authors must include a Data Availability Statement at the end of the manuscript indicating where data can be accessed or explaining any restrictions. Preregistered studies and registered reports will receive priority consideration. For studies using AI or machine learning, TJMPS encourages the sharing of model architectures, training procedures, and code.

Use of AI in Manuscript Preparation

Authors who use generative artificial intelligence tools (e.g., large language models, text-to-image generators, AI-based paraphrasing tools) during any stage of manuscript preparation must disclose the specific tools used, the nature and extent of their use, and whether the output was substantively modified. AI tools cannot be listed as authors. The corresponding author assumes full responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of all content.

References

All references must be formatted in APA 7th Edition style with DOIs provided wherever available. Authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all references. Self-citations should be kept to the minimum necessary for scientific context. The editorial team may request removal of excessive or irrelevant self-citations during the review process.

Submission Preparation Checklist

Before submitting, authors must confirm that all of the following conditions are met:

1.       The submission is original, has not been previously published, and is not under review at another journal.

2.      The manuscript is prepared in Microsoft Word (.docx) format, double-spaced, with 12-point serif font and 1-inch margins.

3.      The text conforms to APA 7th Edition style for formatting, headings, citations, and references.

4.      Two separate files are provided: (a) a title page with full author details, and (b) a blinded manuscript with all identifying information removed.

5.      A structured abstract of 200-250 words is included with Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusions sections.

6.      Four to six keywords are provided, listed alphabetically.

7.      All references include DOIs where available and are accurate and complete.

8.      Tables are editable (not images) and figures are at least 300 dpi.

9.      Ethical approval details (approving body, date, reference number) are stated in the manuscript.

10.   A Data Availability Statement is included.

11.    A Conflict of Interest declaration is provided for all authors.

12.   An AI Disclosure Statement is included if any generative AI tools were used during manuscript preparation.

13.   All authors have read and approved the final manuscript and consent to submission.
